31st Street
Countryside Industries, Inc. has recently landscaped what is called “The Greenest Harbor in the World”. The new 31st Street Harbor with its 1,000 boat slips and 3,000 foot breakwater and eco-landscaping has become one of the most exciting landscape projects in the Chicago area.
With its stunning panoramic views of the skyline coupled with over 420 trees, 1,500 shrubs, 3,300 perennials and a quarter million plugs, the harbor is now home to Chicago’s only in-water boat show.
The project included the installation of a 63,000 SF accessible green roof which not only provides a beautiful setting for visitors, it also acts as a natural insulator for the harbor services building and parking garage below.
The harbor is the recipient of the 2013 American Society of Landscape Architects, Illinois Chapter President’s Award of Excellence and the 2012 Engineering News Record Midwest Best Landscape/Hardscape Urban Development Project.
